Canton, St Paul & Pacific Rwy, Georgia Northeastern RR, Georgia Marble RR

Saturday at 1100 hrs. - Canton, St. Paul & Pacific Railway in Canton, Ga. This is just a few miles from our Sunday set-on. This one and one/half inch scale railroad (the track gauge is 7 ½ inches) features both steam and diesel, has three trestles, three tunnels, and over 3300 feet of track. There are two wyes and many passing sidings for their trains to run in both directions on single track. You will really get a wonderful railroad adventure touring their railroad and riding again and again to Elizabeth at the top of the mountain. Be sure to look them up on the internet, they have a great web site. www.csppry.com . Your donations to the Canton, St. Paul & Pacific Railway will be appreciated.

Sunday - Georgia Marble Railroad must go through two switchbacks in order to get to the marble mines from Tate. Tate is at the top of the mountain, the mines at the very bottom. This may be the only freight-only railroad in North America that still uses switchbacks. Some of our trackage will be up to a 7 percent grade. For this reason, only four (4) cycle cars will be permitted and we will observe a strict 5 MPH speed limit. All motorcars will be required to bring sand, in case of slippery rail. This is normally the coldest weekend in our area and we will run, rain, shine, or snow.

Requirements: You must be a member of NARCOA, have NARCOA Insurance, and have passed the Rules Test. This weekend is subject to NARCOA 2008 insurance, rules, and regulations. All cars will be inspected. All NARCOA rules will apply. No refunds after December 17, 2008. All operators and passengers must wear a REFLECTORIZED Safety Vest/Shirt while on railroad property. A mobile VHF radio capable of receiving railroad frequencies is strongly encouraged. Only FOUR CYCLE cars will be permitted. Every car must have a can or bag of sand with them for traction as necessary for the switchbacks. Please make your check for $85.00 payable to: Atlanta Railcar Transportation LLC (Affiliate) c/o Bobby Moreman (EC), 3520 Cold Springs Lane, Chamblee, Georgia 30341. Full refunds before December 17, 2008. There is a strict limit of 20 motorcars and a waiting list will be established.

Northwest Railway Museum

PRO announces a 'Spring Tune-Up" ride March 21, 2009. This will take place at the Northwest Railway Museum in Snoqualamie, WA. This event will be an opportunity to check out your car for the summer excursions. We will make multiple trips between North Bend and Snoqualamie. During the day you will be able to test your car and check out all those cool "do-dads" you got for Christmas and have installed on your car. You will have time to set out and work on any nagging problems you find. PRO wants all cars and operators to be ready for the summer excursions. Better to find things out here rather than driving 1000 miles to find out your car won't run or you have a safety problem that needs fixing. But wait, that's not all! Bring all parts that are excess to your inventory and there will be an informal swap meet. While people are riding, there will be someone to watch over the parts while displayed. So, do some spring cleaning and get your car ready for summer. Cost is $35.00 per car. All NARCOA and PRO rules apply. For further information contact Steve Healy please include Snoqualamie in the subject line.

Knox & Kane Railroad
“Ride to the Bridge” The Northern Central Railcar Association is proud to announce a 2-day excursion on the Knox & Kane Railroad. This will be the second NARCOA excursion on this railroad. The future of the K & K is uncertain at this time, and any ride could be our last. This railroad has not seen any traffic for several years and is overgrown with weeds in many places, but is very passable. Many crossing flange ways are filled with pavement or dirt. We will clean the ones we can and drive slowly over those we can’t. If you don’t want to drive through brush or weeds, don’t come. This railroad is almost entirely in a wooded/rural area. We will have restroom facilities at set-on, set-off, and turning points only. The scenery will more than make up for the inconveniences.
Saturday - We will set on in Marienville, Pa and travel to Kane, turn on the wye and return. Round trip miles for Saturday will be 64. Our lunch/toilet stop will be in Kane. There is a convenience store across the street, with sandwiches etc. or you can bring your own food.
Sunday - We will set on in Kane, PA and travel to the Kinzua State Park, turn and return to Kane. Round trip miles for Sunday will be 32. In the park, you can view the Kinzua Bridge that was destroyed by a storm in 2003. The standing and fallen parts have been left as they were for you to see. Also in the park, there are flush toilets and picnic tables. We hope to have box lunches delivered for lunch or you can bring your own food. Box lunches are not included in the registration fee.
Information - NARCOA rules enforced. No Hyrails. “A” cars with permission only. 35 car limit Price for both days is $65 per car. Saturday only is $40. Sunday only is $35. coordinator-Gary Shrey Home 717-227-9628 Cell 717-586-3101

We will return to Denton that evening. Best web site (84 miles round trip) We will add a CMR night run that evening weather and time permitting. (40 miles round trip)
Thursday, June 11th we will travel the east end of CMR to Moccasin and the BNSF interchange. This is a spectacular section with four large bridges, our only tunnel and fantastic scenery and wildlife. Half of this day will be on the former GN's Lewistown branch. We'll see the Charlie Russell Chew Choo dinner train on the way. (82 miles round trip)
Friday, June 12th will be used as a travel day to reach Whitehall. We have secured permission to run on BNSF, but it is storing cars on its out-of-service branches, and with the economy as it is, cars to be stored are arriving every day. BNSF is unwilling to predict the status of its lines for June at this time. If there is any trackage available, we will utilize a portion of Friday to run what we can. Web site The MRL set on in Whitehall, MT will be in the late afternoon in either case.
Saturday June 13th we will depart Whitehall and travel most of MRL's 5th and 6th subdivisions through the heart of the Jefferson River canyon to within just a few miles of the Three Forks of the Missouri, and we will run along all three tributaries. Both of these divisions are spectacular trips through rocky canyons and 2 % mountain grades over former Northern Pacific trackage. This is part of the former NP's historic Butte passenger line. Web site (100 miles round trip) The day will feature an outdoor "goodbye barbecue."
A third of this tour will feature new trackage that has never before seen a motorcar excursion.
The fee for the eight-day BSA III is $550 and is limited to 25 cars plus escorts. Preference will be given to those able to do the entire trip. Total track mileage is 500-575 miles. All NARCOA rules and guidelines are in effect. Operators must have NARCOA insurance, operator's certificates and be mentored. This will NOT be a mentoring run and will be limited to experienced operators and proven cars due to distance and railroad operations. Spark arrestors are required. Make checks payable to PRO, but mail them to Excursion Coordinator Bill Taylor, 917 Parkview Way, Missoula, MT 59803. All reservations must arrive in separate envelopes! Information packets with set on and lodging specifics will be made available upon payment of the excursion fee. No reservations accepted without payment. Fees are non-refundable after May 15th.
