Some friends and I are in the process of preparing an all-time
motor car roster comprising the fleet of the (GM&O) Gulf Mobile
& Ohio, (ICRR) Illinois Central and the (ICGRR) Illinois Central
Gulf.
It seems that the records for these cars have gone by the wayside.
So, we are collecting all of the information available and putting
it into a data base. This data base gives the engine serial number,
car serial number, engine type, date built, Railroad and car number,
any renumbering data available and special features for each car.
We are also going to the extent to note where engines have been
swapped from car to car and etc. So far, we have gained data on
156 cars for the maintained railroads. We are also looking for
any assignment records for the motor cars as far as sections assigned.
I am asking anyone who owns a car from the railroads mentioned
or has information available to contact me. I will send you a
sheet with the information needed for the file and if you would
please fill it out and send it back to me. If you have a copy
of the history card for your car to go by it would be very helpful.
Anyone with a photo of their car, please feel free to e-mail a
copy of it as well.
If enough information presents itself, there is the possibility
to produce a roster sheet to anyone interested.
If you or anyone you know has any information to add to the roster,
I would really like to hear from you. Upon request, I will send
you a preliminary roster for you to view and see what information

This has started to play, just a hair. Shut down car for crankshaft protection. Wasn't present in restoration test runs.
That's the bad news. Good news is that everything has been restored, and will come with two Fairmont NOS (NEW) belts. The last 2 of three that Fairmont had in stock at the time. All new wood, Fairmont Safety Plates.
Belt is new, so it squeals. Adjustment in Idler tension will fix that.
I have had fun with this.

It has the friction flywheel drive similar to a FM40B. The car is an ex GTW car having come from the GTW Shops at Battlecreek Michigan. It came with a home made cab, but he took it off because it was ugly. He cleaned the car up from the chassis up and repainted it. I have seen this car personaly and it looks nice. Fairmont S2 Series H-1-5 Section Car

This is a neat old section car, what can I say about this one. The carbody is
in very good shape. It features the Fairmont add-on windshield which contains
good window glass. The windshield and roof are straight and very sound. The
car is painted Fairmont orange and is stenciled F8026. The car tags are all
still in place on the seat top. The aluminum side panels, wooden seat top and
side steps are all in very good condition. The wheels look to be good and have
many miles of service left. The drive belt is in good shape and also has plenty
of life. The engine which is not original to the car was built in 1946. However,
it is free, has good compression, features the condenser/hopper style water
jacket and had the Hy-duty timer. With just a minimal amount of work this car
would be ready for the rails. It comes with a history card, starting crank handle
and the generator and light outfits. The car presently has wooden lift handles,
but aluminum handles are available if desired. The price for this car is 1400.

I have a Fairmont two-cell hand lantern #M4804 that is in great shape except it is missing its mirrored reflecter behind the bulb. This is part #F403 in the Fairmont catalog. I have four Motorola HT600 portable radios fhat are perfect for motorcars. They came from CSX and have CSX engraving on them. They are programmable and can handle 6 channels. This car has the 2-speed rear axle which makes it an absolute "stump puller" in low gear. And, in high gear going only 20 mph, due to a slow A-car directly ahead, this RQ-D powered ST2 pulled a heavy trailer car up Camas Prairie's famous 14-mile long, 3% grade without missing a beat. And if this display of raw power alone isn't impressive, the fact that this pussycat engine can always be started without the crank will simply amaze you!
